In my experience nothing makes a hiring manager more frustrated than an applicant that has no knowledge about the company they are applying. No matter how impressive their resume is if an applicant knows nothing about the company it shows that they didn’t take the time to do everything in their power to set themselves apart from other applicants.
It’s common practice for the hiring manager to ask “what do you know about us?” as a way to eliminate underprepared candidates from those who gave that extra mile for the position. Even though unemployment rates are declining, competition for certain positions is still very high, and applicants must do anything on its reach to get ahead of the competition.
Here are a few reasons why you should research about the company you are applying for:
- It demonstrates your enthusiasm to work within the company, and this speaks volumes to the hiring manager.
- It allows you to adapt your speech, skills and knowledge to the company values and this will certainly give you an edge in the competition.
- It helps you understand if this is actually a company you want to work for.
- And most importantly this research will help you answer questions in the interview with a based foundation.
Hope this helps you for your next interview. Remember ALWAYS Google the company you are applying for; spending one hour at it might be that last drop that will turn the scale your way!
